Last Friday the $1 billion Barclays Center was unveiled to the public following a ceremonial ribbon-cutting. Aside from concerts and college basketball games, the 675,000-square-foot arena will function primarily as the home of the Brooklyn Nets, the borough’s first major professional franchise since the Dodgers decamped to the West Coast in 1957. The Nets’ home court just might be the most high-tech stadium in sports, with a steel and glass exterior ringed by the Oculus, extending out 117 feet and hovering 30 feet above the main plaza. Its 360-degree high-definition display will show everything from game highlights to art installations. Inside the 18,200-seat facility, fans will enjoy free Wi-Fi, as well as an app that allows them to order food without leaving their seats. There’s also 8,000 square feet of LED signage, highlighted by a high-definition scoreboard visible from all the main doors. Learn more about the Nets’ high-tech new home in the video below.
