Ever since the success of the Kickstarter-funded Oculus Rift, the possibility of virtual reality (VR) video gaming has seemed just around the bend. Entering the fledgling VR market, Sony has announced Project Morpheus, a VR headset for PlayStation 4. The prototype was shown at a Game Developers Conference 2014 event dubbed Driving the Future of Innovation and uses a 1080p LCD, includes a 90-degree field of view, and will integrate with the PlayStation Camera for tracking and PlayStation Move for motion control. The VR headset is apparently the “culmination of our work over the last three years to realize our vision of VR for games, and to push the boundaries of play,” according to Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Worldwide Studios. No release date has been set for Project Morpheus but Sony plans to make an SDK available to developers in the near future.
