The Mirror Houses by Peter Pichler Architecture offer a gorgeous view of the South Tyrolean countryside in Bolzano. Situated among the grapevines and apple orchards native to the area, the holiday homes are mirrored and staggered to create an off-kilter symmetry between them. The two units, connected by a middle wall, continue the reflective theme with the back wall which serves as an enormous mirror. To give the solid whole an even more fluid and airy appearance, the structure is curved towards the front, and raised off the ground by a base, suggesting flotation. Altogether the design of the building, though modern, enables it to almost disappear into the landscape. Skylights throughout transpose the outside impetus towards airiness onto the interior, providing ventilation, and allowing natural light to fill the space.
