‘Emotion’ is one of the key words, if not the principal word, that permeates rhetoric surrounding Drake. Indeed, the Canadian artist has a way of presenting himself that seems unguarded and somewhat vulnerable – a kinda jarring idea in mainstream hip-hop, if you would call his practice such. The artist’s new short film, “Jungle,” is an extension of that vulnerability leading up to Drake’s Views from the 6 LP, which is slated to drop sometime this year, although it also somehow rectifies his insecurities. Perhaps “Jungle” isn’t so much focused on the music as does inform it; it’s a spectrum of fleeting moments from Drake’s life past and present. Of particular note though, Drake previews an ostensibly forthcoming track a little past the 5 minute mark. The artist here plays both the audience and the spectacle, a balance that the viewer feels while watching, rather viscerally, we might add. Directed by Karim Huu Do, save some time today to enjoy the video piece above.
