Notwithstanding the sophisticated technology involved, the 2014 Rolex Oyster Perpetual Sky-Dweller is imbued with a classic aesthetic and simple-to-use functionality. Those features include a dual time zone — offering local time via center watch hands and reference time via an off-center disc – and an annual calendar that automatically differentiates between 30- and 31-day months. The simplified interface to set the watch’s functions is executed through a rotating bezel, as well as a complex mechanical module made up of no fewer than 60 components, each demanding state-of-the-art watchmaking and micromechanical expertise. At this week’s Baselworld 2014, Rolex will present three new versions of the Oyster Perpetual Sky-Dweller: 18 ct yellow, white and Everose gold in a 42 mm case.
