Created by the German-based audio company Binauric with an assist from designer Mathieu Lehanneur, the Boom Boom is a Bluetooth speaker developed with simplicity in mind: it supports audio playback, conference call capabilities, and the option to sync up two speakers. But the polygonal device was built with additional components — including an accelerometer, light sensors and microphones — that would allow it to take on new functionalities as the technologies were developed. One such feature is a newly unveiled app that allows the speaker to capture 3D sound, allowing users to snap a photo and record the corresponding ambient noise, resulting in something that’s akin to Instagram for sound. The Boom Boom is available for purchase now directly from Binauric, while the app is set to launch in November.
