Rei Kawakubo of Japan’s COMME des GARCONS is no stranger to the art of collaboration, but this upcoming project finds the celebrated designer aligning her progressive label with an unlikely partner: the 175-year-old French luxury brand Hermès.

The two names have come together to produce six scarf designs, all designed by Kawakubo and constructed, as all Hermès scarves are, in Lyon’s famous silk mills. The design motifs blend signature COMME des GARCONS elements — polka dots, heavy lines, nylon gingham — with traditional Hermès mythic icons like Thalassa and Pegasus. Limited to 200 pieces each and collected under the Comme des Carrés banner, the first release from the two-part collaboration will launch through select retailers next month. SOURCE FRESHNESSMAG
