Long before their much anticipated collaboration, Kanye West actually worked with adidas on another project, according to West’s long-time associate Ibn Jasper. After the success of his 2004 album The College Dropout and subsequent hit Late Registration, West created a design for Reebok slated to launch later in the year. All that changed in 2005 however when adidas acquired Reebok for $3.8 billion, though West’s designs lived on as a pair of ZX 850 samples in 2006. Updated by Yeezy himself for the adidas David Bechkham sub-brand, the model didn’t see the light of day till last year. This recent development begs the question then, was West planning his departure from the Nike partnership long before he publicized it? In the meantime, you can see the West’s very first design for adidas, courtsey of Ibn Jasper, after the jump.
