For his third exhibition at Honor Fraser Gallery, KAWS returns to Los Angeles with new drawings, paintings and sculptures. In his most recent body of work, what appear to be non-representational images are variations on small details of Charles M. Schulz’s iconic drawings of characters from his Peanuts series. Remaining faithful to Schulz’s original line drawings, KAWS has enlarged tiny instances from the familiar renderings of Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Pig-Pen, and others for a grid of fifty works on paper in black and white. Though the Peanuts characters are blown so far out of proportion that they are nearly unrecognizable, KAWS leaves just enough information to identify his subjects.
For this exhibition, KAWS has made a transparent Corian sculpture cast in the form of Warm Regards, one of his original characters. In this new work, a silhouette of Warm Regards is filled in with the gigantic mouth of KAWSBob, KAWS’ version of SpongeBob SquarePants. A pair of enormous white eyeballs marked with KAWS’ signature “X”s is layered over the mouth. KAWS’ new works in Corian are said to allow for a unique type of painting in space that brings dimension to line.

The exhibition will run from September 13 through October 31, with an opening reception on September 13 at 6 p.m. PDT.
