Saints vs Chargers
Today, 3:25 PM on FOX
Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego, California
The New Orleans Saints are desperate for a win after starting 0-3, and they definitely don’t want to enter the bye week 0-4.
Against a 1-2 San Diego Chargers team, the Saints should have an opportunity to post their first victory of 2016. Like the Saints, the Chargers are dealing with lots of injuries to key players — wide receiver Keenan Allen, running back Danny Woodhead and linebacker Manti Te’o are all on injured reserve.
A major key for a win today will be Saints DBs vs. Chargers WRs
The Saints defense allowed the second-most plays of 20-plus yards in the first three games, so they have to have a plan to slow down Chargers receivers Travis Benjamin and Tyrell Williams. Both receivers have four gains of 20-plus yards already this year, and Williams is averaging an impressive 18.3 yards per catch.
Saints cornerbacks have outplayed expectations thus far, and they need to be sure to keep the speedy receivers in front of them Sunday. And if the cornerbacks struggle, the safeties have to be in the right spot to prevent potentially huge gains.
