We recently paid a visit to the founder of NV Euro, a clothing brand based out of New Orleans. The echoes he’s sending out with his team which he calls ‘brothers” of style and great business has become something that helps the locals of the “Big Easy” grow a sense of hope. Hope of having something to represent in such a small city of many big dreams. Born in Brooklyn and raised in the small parish on the outskirts of New Orleans in Metairie,LA. Anthony Euro talks of bringing a Sneaker Summit to New Orleans, and representing the south for fashion.
Q: Good to link up again Anthony, since we last met up at your previous office can you bring us up to pace.. As we seen alot of progression in the last couple of months.
Anthony: It’s always a pleasure having you here brother… We have a lot going on. Everyday and every hour there’s something new and exciting that’s bringing us closer to our goals. As you can see we’re in our new warehouse which is a much larger setting than what we are used to working in compared to our old office. I’m just happy with life right now and how things are going.
Q: You mentioned New Orleans Sneaker Summit on your Twitter. I’m familiar with the one in Houston. Are the same people involved? What’s your role in that.
Anthony: I’ve always attended the H-Town Sneaker Summit many times with my team and noticed that Houston shows us a lot of love and to one another. I seen Bryan Angelle (founder of H-Town Sneaker Summit) outside this Pusha-T concert in Vegas I just simply introduced myself and said “We need one in New Orleans”. He must of thought “who’s this kid talking out his neck”, but we exchanged contact and he later called me and flew out here for a day. We went around scouting for locations and now it’s official New Orleans Sneaker Summit on February 16th at the Pontchartrain Center. I’m really excited about the New Orleans Sneaker Summit to get all the local artist, brands, and stores involved because what I saw in Houston is something New Orleans really needs… Coexistence.
Q: That’s amazing, I can’t wait… Let me ask, Since your growth what kind of Love have you been receiving from New Orleans?
Anthony: As of late it’s been amazing.. Whenever I’m out people show love and say their proud of me. That means a lot coming from my hometown,I still live here ,I hang out with my friends here,my family is here… A lot of people blow up and forget the foundation that got them there.. I will never because I’m building this dream at home. It’s like Sonny from the movie Bronx Tale said
”I could live anywhere I want to. Know why I live in this neighborhood? Availability. I want to stay close to everything because being on the spot I can see trouble early.”
The reason for me working to get a sneaker summit down here as in many other things I want to give the young people here something to look forward to. The more we grow the more attention we can bring down here from the industry.
Q: Ive heard that your under the same sales agency as Staple Pigeon and Stance Socks… How did that come about?
Anthony: Yea,The Pioneering Mine is handling our Domestic sales. It came about all from having the grateful opportunity to meet Bryan Wilson aka Weezy, the owner of the Pioneering Mine. I heard great things about him and knew he had a big role with helping LRG reach their $100 million mark. He’s also an OG in the industry with plenty of valuable experience. I met him on Fairfax one day and he complimented one of my partner’s (Rami Khaled) tee shirt which just so happened to be a NV Euro Bella Vida Tee. Unfortunately , I didn’t know Bryan at the time and was later informed. When I saw him at the Vegas trade shows I formally introduced myself and really just wanted to listen to his gems and the crazy stories of the LRG days. A person like that you just try to soak up as much as you can and I made sure to leave a great impression. He then happened to visit town on a sales trip and we hit him up and did our best to give him our southern hospitality. Of course, we tried to persuade him into becoming our main sales rep, but he declined hahaha (in a nice way of course). Weezy is very big into patience and timing so at that moment I was frustrated with myself just thinking ”If not now, When?” I then decided to let things be with no love lost. A month later I was on the way to my mothers house , I get a call from Weezy saying that he and his new partner Nick Irsfeld would like to pick up the brand and get things rolling! Today they play a big role with getting us in the right stores. They’re there for me whenever I need advice or have a question. That’s exactly what I was looking for because we’re a family based company we’re all brothers and your sales team has a big role on how long your brand is going to last.
Q: Do you feel like there is an added pressure being along side brands like Staple and stance? And having people who worked for a big company like LRG on your side?
Anthony: Of course, there’s a lot to prove on our end and I think that’s what motivates us to go further in every area from shipping to the tags we sew on the clothes. At the end of the day that’s what separates us from the rest… that we care.
Q: When you say ”That We care”… can you elaborate on that?
Anthony: I say we care because we stress the importance of the finish product, detail, print ,fit, design, etc. All those elements make a great garment and I feel a lot of brands now skip these steps cause it’s no longer about the clothes it’s who’s wearing it or how many followers you have. We really don’t work towards that. Before I started the brand I was a customer and every shirt I bought once I washed it,it was ruined. With us we don’t mind taking a hit on our profit to provide a better tee shirt quality.
We’re focusing on how people perceive the brand in real life when they order online or buy from one of our accounts. Why do you think Ralph Lauren is such a great brand? It’s because he didn’t have the internet to depend on and he only had one shot to get your attention and that was in a real life encounter.
I always remind my team “Look at things as if there was no social media.” Of course we use social media it but it’s not our main source to getting our brand out there. Kendrick Lamar was wearing our hat the other night all through what we call organic growth. His engineer Ali hit me up just showing love and they feel the meaning to our brand and what we stand for. Clothing and Music are both forms of art. Those guys know what it is to make art with thought, meaning, a story behind it. I appreciate relationships like that. Nothing is ever forced here… that’s the best way to grow.
Q: So your the next Ralph Lauren?
Anthony: Yeah, you can say that.
Q: So tell me about Agenda trade show this year.. will NV Euro be setting up?
Anthony: This is fact.. We will be showing our Winter ’13 collection ” Now or Never” at the Agenda NYC and Vegas this summer. Im super anxious being this our first tradeshow.
Q: Congrats and Good luck! Being 21 and a boss of a company, how do you manage these two? Do you ever get tempted to break?
Anthony: Nah not really.. I’ve lived my life in stages so I’ve done the partying ,have had girlfriends and I learned those things can wait. Nothing against people who party or are in relationships, but I manage my life in balance and moderation. I’ve learned it’s best to split your time in two. I’ve noticed some people want to do so many things at once, but they never give anything their 100%. I chose to give my time to my family and my dream that so both can have my all. I occasionally go out and kick it, but I have a little voice in my head reminding me ”I have to finish this collection, samples, deadlines,”haha not even joking man. You can ask anyone close to me and they will tell you how paranoid I get about wasted time.
Q: That’s an old mind you have ha! What can you share with those just starting a brand?
Anthony: Choose your friends wisely, be you, and know the importance of every hand you shake. Do good and good things will happen.
Q: Thank you Anthony for letting me come by the new warehouse. Best wishes this year. Keep representing New Orleans the proper way. To conclude this Interview. What is your ultimate goal?
Anthony: My ultimate goal is no longer about me. It’s about my family, my team, and my city. To provide for my family, create opportunity, inspire the young people of New Orleans, and the next generation of brands from here. I hope to see more great things come out of my city and will feel a sense of greatness to know we left our footprints behind. I never had that coming up. I didn’t have anybody to answer my questions when I was confused or when I made a mistake. I had to fall and figure it out on my own.
“I want to be living proof that you don’t need to be in a major city to make it. I want it to be bigger then clothing and something that’s going to last forever. No telling where we are going… but we’re going.” – Anthony Euro
