H&M has it all, don’t they? Stylish fashion that everyone loves at price points that we can all afford. Perfect business model, right? Well, even if that is true, it seems H&M wants to try their hand at a high-end luxury line sometime in the near future. The Swedish retailer is said to be working on an exclusive collection that will see a much higher price range than their current selection. After hugely successful collaborations with Versace and Lanvin, this move by H&M shouldn’t come as too much of a shock.
Their transition over the years has been noted. Collaborations with major fashion houses, exclusive pieces for celebs, and a widely reported change to more eco-friendly materials, H&M has reigned supreme in all of their endeavors. And while they would neither confirm nor deny this initiative, its said that the luxury line would involve the direction of Behnaz Aram, current head of “New Business” at H&M. Definitely an interesting move to say the least.
Would this venture position H&M into fashion dominance in two markets? Or would it alienate the consumer they already serve? Let us know your thoughts on this potential power play by H&M.
