The Hornets were powered by their backcourt last night in a 99-96 overtime win in Dallas. Greivis Vasquez and Eric Gordon both made plays and shots when the Bees needed one every time in the 2nd half. Greivis carried the Hornets in the fourth and Gordon did the heavy lifting in the extra 5 minute period.

Eric made his 1st start of the year last night and Head Coach Monty Williams for the first time this year got an enter a game with his full arsenal intact. Gordon’s game is still a little rusty but his late game heroics and attitude were just what New Orleans needed to snap a 2 game losing streak. In his third game back from injury, Eric was 1-9 from the field, 0-3 from deep and 4-4 from the line at the end of regulation.

With Dallas up 94-91 at the 2:08 mark in overtime, Gordon got busy. The 5th year Shooting Guard shook off his woes to score the Hornets last 8 points. Eric took the rock straight to the cup and put in a reverse lay-up. The Bees then get a stop on defense. Next possession down, he hit a 3-pointer to retake the lead for the Hornets 96-94 at 1:18. After a Dallas timeout, the Mavs answered with their own bucket tying the game at 96 all on a Shawn Marion lay-up. Both teams missed on consecutive possessions leaving the Bees with the ball and the last shot. Gordon made it count.

Gordon one-on-one with Darren Collison at the top of the key, made a few moves and then hesitated just enough to draw contact, went up and made a 21 footer plus getting the foul shot. He made the free throw and that prove to be enough. Gordon’s play is a reason for Hornets fans to be optimistic. His confidence and ability to get to the basket and create his own shot had a positive effect all around last night.

Greivis Vasquez scored 15 of his 25 points in the 4th quarter but also shot 50 percent from behind the arc. Vasquez probably had his best performance of the season. Shooting 11/18, grabbing 7 boards and dishing out 9 ast. Ryan Anderson, Jason Smith and Al-Farouq Aminu all scored in double figures. Aminu had a double double recording 10 points and 13 rebounds. Vasquez said it best,”It was a fun game for us because we were playing not good, but the fourth quarter and the momentum carried over for us.”
