So anybody that knows me, knows that Shrimp & Grits is my favorite dish. It seems like its a meal that I have to have at least once a week. So for now I’m on a quest to find the best Shrimp & Grits in the Crescent City. I recently tried Ste. Marie on Poydras connected to the 930 Poydras Lofts. My intent was to try the Chicken & Waffles, however after seeing Shrimp & Grits on the menu, I had to have a taste.
The menu described this dish’s ingredients as: “tasso, stone ground grits, Abita Amber reduction.” Tasso is a highly seasoned smoked pork commonly used in New Orleans dishes. Abita Amber is a beer brewed just north of New Orleans at one of the oldest craft breweries in the US. So you see the choice was simple, but not really because I don’t eat pork.
Even though I ordered it without the Tasso, it was still every bit of flavor-full as any other Shrimp & Grits that I’ve ever had. It was definitely a refreshing meal that I would recommend to any tourist or local New Orleanian.
