Three Reasons You Should Watch FX and Donald Glover’s New TV Comedy “Atlanta”
And then along came a voice… A voice that was partially heard on NBC’s hit show “30 Rock”… A voice that is a self- proclaimed “Weirdo” …A voice that promised he’d love us until 3005 (ok… I might be over exaggerating)… but that voice is Donald Glover’s. Glover has introduced the world to a new perspective and style of writing in his new cable T.V show “Atlanta”.” Atlanta” debuted September 6, 2016 on FX. The TV series follows Earn, a broke black millennial that returns home to Atlanta. Alfred (paperboy) Miles, Earn’s cousin and up and coming local rapper/ real life drug dealer who Earn manages. Then, Paperboy’s right hand man Darius. So far, we are 3 episodes in of the late night cable MA- rated awesomeness. If you are not watching, here are three reasons you should be tune into FX on Tuesday Night’s.
The “Elephant in the Room” Social Commentary – Between Mental Health, the impeding job and wage crisis for Millennials, real Relationship dynamics, The realities of the state of most Black American Communities, and much more. There is no shortage of consciousness in this comedy series.
The Open and Un- Judgmental Usage of Weed –The main characters consistently share bonding moments that showcase the highs and lows of weed smoking. Let’s admit it; most Millennial’s are stoner savants. The highs make the guys conscious of the broader vision and provide a calmer demeanor in some of their “not so calming” situations that they end up in. The lows highlight the partial complacency and slightly shaded judgment for detail in areas of their lives.
Ladarius – We all have (or at least have had, or maybe you are) “That Friend”, the Friend that you aren’t sure if they are really stupid or just really smart ( insert finger on chin emoji) . Darius is comic relief in an innocent manner. Darius’ character is not malicious in intent and full of advice jewels. I am excited to see the progression of Darius throughout the series.
Tune into FX Tuesday’s 10/9c .
